"Remembrance of the Divine" by Wilfredo Santana

In Remembrance of the Divine: Through my own spiritual journey I have been able to channel the transformative (and healing) powers that come from finding a direct spiritual connections with this outer worldly entities, through mixed painted collages I bestowed- or perhaps- consecrated- with marble dust and gold upon portraits of full representation of mythical ethereal modern day gods and goddesses repeated thru all of history with different name but same ideology and mythological representation. I have been painting deities for over 15 years not seeing the connection and seeing them as individual when in fact all comes from the same source. This series is about remembering where we came from and how the human experience has always been in search for the higher self and oneness with the universe. "These Deities are a representation of the ancestral spirits that guide me; the angels that protect me ; and the saints that were passed on to me as a gift."
In developing this series I was inspired by Summerian, Egyptian, Greek, Judeo-Christian, and Mesoamerican pre Columbus Civilizations symbolism- some known, like the [Egyptian] 'Sphinx of Giza", "Isis", "Wadget the Cobra goddess" was said to be the protector of lower Egypt. "Isis and Nephtys" are goddesses of the afterlife and rebirth. ; and others not so common like [Summerian] "Adamus" or Adam; the first genetically modified human created by the Annunnaki in the garden of Eden found in the Ethiopian bible, the oldest bible in the world.
[Greek] "NIX" was the goddess of the night, she is one of the primordial Gods that emerged at the dawn of creation.
I have developed a distinct spiritual visual language in my work; roughhew, gritty, and incongruous much like the ancient interpretation and representation whose very essence is the guiding force for each and everyone of the divine entities.

Blurring of the masculine and feminine energies combined with exaggerated physical attributes that are both mesmerizing and daunting. And, with meticulous attention, I treat each art work as more than a painting : and more like a sculpture. These artwork serve a 21th century talismans or Ex-voto.
My goal is to make pieces that expose the seams- the scars that make you unique- while integrating a range of materials and experimenting with techniques to create compelling new work . And just like my work the Divine symbols whom I have seen since I was a child take on mysterious hybrid form- breaking the queering notion of gender and each one derived from a documented spiritual origin.
